Size Guide
Costume sizing is different from everyday clothing. This guide explains how our sizes work and how to pick the right one.
How our sizes work
Children’s costumes are sized by age range, not by numeric clothing size. Every product page lists the exact ages available for that style.
| Size shown | Age range |
|---|---|
| XS | Age 3–4 |
| S | Age 4–5 |
| M | Age 6–7 |
| L | Age 8–9 |
| XL | Age 10–11 |
Not every style is made in every size. Check the size selector on the product page to see what is available.
Go by measurement, not just age
Children of the same age vary widely. If your child is tall, broad, or small for their age, measure first and choose by fit rather than by birthday.
Take these three measurements with a soft tape, over light clothing:
- Height — from the top of the head to the floor, standing straight without shoes
- Chest — around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, tape level and not pulled tight
- Waist — around the natural waistline, above the hip bone
Fit notes
- Costumes are cut generously so they can be worn over regular clothing.
- Halloween is cold in much of the country. If your child will wear a sweater or thermal layer underneath, size up.
- Between two sizes? Choose the larger one. A slightly roomy costume is easy to belt or pin; a tight one is not wearable.
- Capes, robes, and one-piece jumpsuits are the most forgiving. Fitted dresses and jackets are the least.
- Check hem length on capes and long dresses so they do not become a trip hazard.
Still not sure?
Email us your child’s height and chest measurement along with the style you are looking at, and we will tell you which size we would send. We would rather help you get it right the first time than process a return.

A note on returns
Costumes must be unworn with tags attached to be returned. Please try the costume on over clothing before removing tags or laundering. See our Returns & Refunds page for full details.
